The last two weeks have been all about music for horror scenes. This has been really fun and has allowed me to rekindle my love of Ligeti, Bartok and Penderecki.

An interesting point that came up in class was how this sort of music is really common in film, but so rare outside it. I think it has something to do with how it somehow blends into a scene to the point that you hardly notice it, but if you listen to the same musicĀ in a concert or from an album it can be extremely alarming and emotionally taxing. I’m sure there’s some amazing psychology behind that, but right now, the music.
